For me, it’s anxiety. I’m a top performer in every review, on the cusp of promotion (would’ve got if not for COVID) but I freak out every time the resource managers reach out to me to see when I’m supposed to roll off my current project. I am always convinced that I’m going to get laid off the day after I roll off.

Personally, I feel that the root of my issue here is largely based on imposter syndrome. I’m really good at what I do, I have great performance reviews, clients love my work, and I’ve spent less time on the beach than colleagues. All logical reasons why my job is safe, right? Not enough for me, my imposter syndrome kicks in. I know part of my issue is that most people I work with have Ivy League MBAs, MSs, or Bachelors degrees. If not, they’re at least from top tier schools. My educational background is far from stellar. Logically, I know this is of less importance than my delivery ability (or I hope it is) but I’m still terrified of being laid off.
