If you're in fed, yes. If you want to grow in the PM/PgM space, or have a boss/client who wants it, it still checks the box in many places. Otherwise, nope. It's an outdated framework and certification, and is frankly pretty useless outside of the aforementioned niches.
What do you all think is a good alternative cert to the PMP relevant to today’s business world?
Unfortunately we do have insecure hiring managers who need “proof.” Personally I have ways to assess PM skills through interviewing, but many HMs are not good PMs themselves and rely on credentials to assess a candidate’s proficiency, hence the popularity of certs like PMP. It is what it is.
What’s a PMP
No
Depends.
Yes it’s worth it because if you learn the PMBOK framework you’ll be a better PM. The certification status is a nice perk but excelling at what you do is the real win.
