It isn't a terrible place to work, but if the stock price starts to fall the first thing they do it start laying off people. And, often those lay-offs are arbitrary. I worked for the most profitable division at the company (Business Intelligence) and they still laid off 40% of us.

I don't know if IBM consulting is different or not, it is just my experience that the company relies on layoffs heavily to maintain profitability and stock value.
I worked for IBM Watson Health for 5.5 years and IBM would have layoffs (resource actions) two or three times a year across all of IBM.
Is it usually the older crowd that is laid off? I doubt they’d fire new grad consultants since they are the cheapest?
I think CIC is often safer, they are significantly cheaper than other consulting resources and often take the same work. I think they also have to keep some level of staff to keep the state tax benefits for them
