How tough is it to break into a FAANG PM role at mid-level if you have less prestigious experience? I have 10+ YOE in product, but some was at a tiny meh startup that fizzled out, some was in the digital wing of a large old healthcare org, and though my current role is GPM at a “name brand” tech company, it’s on the smaller side. Went to a good-but-not-Ivy school. What qualifications and experience are FAANG companies looking for when hiring mid-level PMs? Can I break in at mid-level from here?
Do you all ever have guilt calling in a sick day? I have a pretty bad cold and 5 months pregnant. I’m just so slow today and want to nap. Working from home
The worst words I've ever had spoken to me were 'not compatible with life.' Today is the one year mark since the procedure and loss of what would have been our first child. I'm about to go on a bender 🥃
Have to plan for childcare for when I have to return to work after my first child (we get 12 weeks). Did you hire a live in, someone come to house daily or did you bring to a daycare? How much did you pay and where do you live? Am trying to figure out how much good child care will run me.
First time home buyer here—although not ideal, would it be better to take money out of my Roth or traditional 401k to help pay for the house?
Confession: I'm a new mom traveling and nursing my baby (pumping at work). I'm starting to think the reason I still nurse is to leave the 20 person conf room and go sit in a quiet room for 20 mins.
Going on a parental leave in a month. Anyone know of any remote, freelance/part time I can do to still make money on the side? Out side of Uber/Lyft etc
PwC parental leave benefits?
Is anyone a 100% remote? I know it’s a great opp to be remote during the covid and flu season esp with a young baby (5 month old) but I can’t shake the feeling off that I’m missing HHs and just team events. Doesn’t help that I’m based out of a state where the majority of the team is not present.
Does contributing to 401k beyond the match make sense? You can’t touch it until you’re 59.5. If i were to invest on my own in various etfs Ill pay the 22% tax upfront and then cap gains would be 15% when i sell. I’d have freedom to use that money to invest in real estate. when i pull my yearly salary out in retirement I’d Atleast be in the 22% bracket if not higher. Since the last 3 dem presidents have increased spending like crazy i expect massive tax hikes in the future. Am i wrong?
Do you pay year end taxes on dividends received for holdings in a brokerage account, even if those dividends are reinvested? Is it inescapable that we have to pay taxes on such dividends? Or would the only way to basically hold those positions in a tax deferred/advantaged account (IRA, 401k, etc)?
PwC folks! Is the firm providing any home office benefits like new monitor purchase? I'm starting in September and debating whether I should wait to purchase my second monitor.
I don't have time to make purees at home. I buy from store all the time. I make sure it's organic and natural preservatives. I feel guilty that I don't give my six months old baby home made food ☹️
How’s this offer sound: lead product manager for series C healthcare startup, $220k base, 15% bonus, RSUs, $50k sign on bonus. Seems decent for a startup?
Neighbor’s kid started practicing piano all day long. I support the learning but goddamn the kid sucks at it, and it’s hard listening to this trap house dubstep jazz all day long while I work, and I don’t want to wear my headphone all day as a solution. How to approach their parents? Can you even lower the volume of practicing piano?
Received two offers 1) Deloitte Specialist Leader C&M North America and 2) IBM Associate Partner IBM Consulting North America. Which one would you rate higher and why? Compensation comparable in both. TIA
Anyone have insight into revenue accounting? I’m interviewing for a sr revenue accountant position and wondering if it’ll be too pigeonholed. I also have zero background in this type of accounting so it would be completely new to me, but the hiring manager didn’t seem to mind that I don’t have any experience in this area. I’m fed up with the hours and lack of support in public and want to leave before next busy season for context.
How much does COL adjustment from Chicago to New York look like in salary? For example, if I’m making 210K in Chicago, if I’m trying to get a fair COL, what should I be asking for in NYC?
ACN interviewer made a mistake and did case study interview for manager level role instead of consultant role. I have great feedback from 1st Interview and not so much from case interview because of this. I had a catch up with the recruiter this morning and he said they've now closed recruitment and have said they will get in touch with me towards end of January for Q2 recruitment and that I may need to do case interview again. Good prospects or bad?
Has anyone gone from BigLaw to start their own successful corporate/commercial law firm? How’d that go for you? In hindsight, would you do it all again? I worked at a boutique before joining BigLaw and the partners at the boutique seemed very happy/comfortable with their lifestyle, and they said they get paid more than when they were partners at a mid-tier firm.
Have an Uber final round via zoom yet their whole interview lineup sits in my location. Is this typical? Starting to get spooked and thinking they’re using me for free analyst resources
Intern is clipping their damn fingernails right in the middle of the office. Who does this?
I really wish the big law firms in Canada were as transparent about their pay and bonus scales as what we are seeing in the US. Does any Canadian firm share bonus scales??
People who are in consulting post-MBA: I didn't have to case to get into Booz. How were case interviews for you? Any tips for consulting recruiting during my MBA? Was your Consulting Club helpful?
Hi- I was curious to know if receiving 221(g) on approved H1B change of status applications is common. I’m previously an F1 and switched over to H1B recently. I have my appointment upcoming and was curious about the commonality of the occurrence.
In the middle of interviewing for a role externally right now. Would other firms generally expect you to start after we get bonus? Even if I get the offer in mid-Nov…this means I won’t be able to start at a new firm until mid-Feb (given 30 day garden leave after bonus and resignation). Is that a usual/ok timeline?
Cheetah print heels for an interview? Yay/nay?
ZS Associates vs Slalom Consulting Could anyone who's at these firms or exited from here compare and attest to the parameters below? I'm considering these companies among others to make a transition. Please help, fish! Skills development, short term/long term growth (compensation and otherwise), type of work, type of culture/people, type of industry impact, exit opportunities and any other considerations to decide between multiple offers.
Any advice for someone looking to transition into a full HR Generalist role from Recruiting. I’m currently a Campus Recruiter with about 5 years of HR experience (Coordinator- Higher Ed). I received my PHR certification in September 2020 and sitting for my SHRM-CP in two weeks. I’m having a hard time transitioning into a full Generalist position.
Looking for a tech recruiter! Vori offer transparent leadership, 100% psychological safety, diverse and inclusive environment, and chance to break free from traditional practices. Work from anywhere in the US, we're remote-first :)
Any EY folks know how PAS interviews (experienced staff role) are structured? Is it just standard behavioral and case interview?
I am doing UXR interviews, and although I read that a background in design isn’t necessary for UXR, I have been asked a few times now whether I have experience in design and can use design apps. I have applied research experience and a solid understanding of product development, which I think should land me a UXR role one day, but I’d to hear any thoughts though if you think design knowledge is necessary for UXR?
Had a freak accident in the office and ended up in the ER with stitches. Any experience with workers comp in the big 4???
Had second interview with mid level shop in LA. Is it normal to feel like I lead the interview? There were some silences that I quickly attempted to fill. FYI: it was a late in the day. Was with CD
