Is it normal that, in my second week at this job, I've already been asked by two coworkers to cover their shifts? I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt, considering we're just coming out of the holiday season, but I still think it's kind of wild. I don't want to be the one who says no, but I also don't want to seem like the one who's always available for this.

Be the person who says no, or only say yes because you want to. Do not feel pressured to take somebody else's shift. People will take advantage. Yes, things do happen and come up, but it is not on you to figure it out.

Are you covering their shift & getting OT, or are you trading shifts?

If you don’t want to, say no. If you are willing, say yes and make the money. Don’t feel pressured, it’s your life and your time, not theirs

like

Yeah, it is pretty normal. Just do/take what shifts you’re comfortable with.

Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

So I had 3 deals scheduled to either close end of May or mid June which were all pushed to end of June/beginning of July. Which is when I have my first vacation planned for over a year (I take 0 time off). My whole family is flying up and we’re renting a cabin near me. What do I do? I’m running one of the deals, semi running the other one and not doing much leading on the other one. Note: I was supposed to not be running any of these. Do I find a back up first or tell the partners first?

Question on compensation for a small co with a huge independent contractor workforce that is looking at big expansion into Europe. Reports to the general counsel. 1 other lawyer. Bonus 10-18%. Last year was 15%. No 401k for highly comped employees. I asked if they would be open to having me set up a safe harbor 401 k and they said yes in the future but it won’t be part of this offer. 16 pto days. They moved from 205 to 210 but that 230 is not possible even tho posted salary range was up to 233k

There are so many holiday parties to attend. Any advice on how to make it to many and still be a functional human by the end of the week?

If you were in a private company assistant controller position being offered $10k more to switch over to public and much better PTO days and fully remote as opposed to an in office position that I’m currently at in a Real estate growing company. Would u do the switch back to public (left public just recently)?

I had some major life events this year for which I had to take a large chunk of time off, and with half the year already gone, I’m getting worried about making the hours for my bonus. Is it always an “all or nothing” or do firms give prorated bonuses in certain situations?
