Yes it’s possible, we hire plenty of people at consultant level without MBAs. Normally experienced hires or PhDs.
This being said, I’d never do an MBA with the only goal of making into MBB, because statistically the odds are pretty low
2 - but the big bet can be made (or not) after resolving |M7 uncertainty. And the fall backs for 90% of non-MBB M7ers is pretty good.
Only counting folks recruiting for consulting. 5 years I ago, I did a pretty exhaustive survey at my my M7 covering 3 years. The basic findings were:
- 43% of class participated in consulting recruiting
- 35% were committed to it (ie all events, full coffee chat circuit, legit plan A/B)
- Of those, 1/3 ended up at MBB by graduation, 1/3 ended up elsewhere in consulting, and 1/3 ended up in another industry (with at least some choosing Tech over MBB or Big CPG over T2) etc. 70+ got some consulting offer
Yes and 165 base
I know people who did without grad school but they both started as interns in undergrad and worked their way up internally.
TC 100 / 150 year 1 / 2. Then 200 as a C year 3. Associate is only a 2 year gig.
Doesn’t really matter. We don’t screw people on bonuses. Significant bonus is baked in to total comp, and doesn’t really very down... only up. These are the low end (which is average).
Making 135K and expecting to be a manager by the EOY and making $150K. Would going back for an MBA and then pursuing MBB be worth it?
Why do you want to go to MBB? Why do you want to get a MBA?
Honestly the work at ACN is relatively dull and although I like consulting. This feels more like staff aug. I’m not burnt out, but always wanted to go back to get my MBA for years. Though lately, it has been appealing to me less and less, biggest argument I can make for it is that I can use it to get into an MBB, where there is hopefully more interesting work.
1. yes
2. Exactly the same, MBA or not. 200k TC to start with 15-20% CAGR
