I think your coworker is making something out of nothing. I wear mine daily so I can focus on my work and block out the office noise. It makes me more productive, and my colleagues know me well enough to understand that just because I have my headphones in, it doesn't mean they can't interrupt me if they need something.

This coworker loves to make comments like this- it’s definitely a pattern. Her last complaint was about the team not hanging out outside of work hours... 🙃
That's funny, I always assume people wear headphones at work specifically to be unapproachable. I don't do it myself, I just can't concentrate if I'm listening to something. But if I have to approach someone and I think they're wearing earbuds I'll make sure they can see me. Our gadgets have made us invent new forms of etiquette.

I always encourage ppl to throw something at me to get my attention 🤣
Sometimes it might be nice to be unapproachable! Seriously though, I usually leave one ear open, but I really like having some music playing when I can during the day. Maybe situational too, it’s not like somebody is going to start talking to me and I pop them on.

What kind of music do you usually listen to at work? I'm either listening to classical music or classic rock!
I have bone conduction headphones because people take stuff too seriously.

Haha! If we don't laugh, we’d cry…
I love having headphones in at work. I only wear them in 1 ear and it’s the side that’s facing a wall so I can use the phone and hear people talking. Also everyone at my job knows they can approach me when I have them in and 90% of the time no one knows I have them in when outside of my office.

Great idea, maybe I’ll start wearing just the one to give a more approachable vibe…
considering I am on calls most of the day and required to be in an office where no one that I’m on calls with sits, my coworkers should appreciate that I’m using earbuds. I have a headset and it pulls out the top of my hair.
