Is it worth using Marriott points to pay for a discounted room (wedding block)?

typically yes, for the most part I feel like wedding block prices don't make a huge difference they just tend to lock in reasonable rates for attendees but I don't think they're actually that much cheaper than a normal stay on a weekend that isn't overly busy.

like

I paid cash despite having a boatload of points. Block rate was $149 and the points rate would have been 40k, seemed like I could spend those points better.

like

yeah I should have caveated in any situation where the value of the points is significantly higher than the block prices just pay cash.

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
