Is Marcum LLP a good firm to start out your public accounting career in such as a position like an entry level Assurance Associate? Anyone know?

Pros: above market pay, lots of SEC clients if you want that experience, gave out (modest) raises and bonuses this year Cons: benefits are bad, CEO has a fixation on making employees come into the office during a pandemic

It's public accounting, but I definitely have had some unique opportunities here, including working on an IPO

Make sure you get hired the first time you apply. I applied for an internship interviewed and was rejected because not enough experience first semester of grad school. I tried to apply once I had my MSA and it won’t let me apply again because my application was unsuccessful the first time.

Yes fortunately they gave me an offer. They supposedly pay a bit more than what an entry level Assurance Associate gets offered at any of the big4

likefunny

Not great but if that's your only option, oh well. No one would choose there over big 4 or mid tier though.

Of course there’s ups and downs, it’s PA not Disneyland. I’m just seeing that there’s more opportunity to work with the partner than just with a manager and staff. It’s a good change in environment from B4, I certainly don’t expect work to be any easier but I expect not to be treated like just a number since it’s mid-tier. The pay bump is super generous since I am coming from B4, absolutely.

So I had an interview last Friday for a contract to hire role that I thought went really well. So up until today there wasn’t a peep from the recruiter hiring for role, so I reached out. The recruiter then asked me how comfortable I was in a fast paced environment. I responded by telling her that after working a mix of agency and client side, yes. I honestly thought the answer was pretty self explanatory. She then pushed for more details, which I provided an example of. Red flag?

I don’t have much experience as this is my first job in advertising (comms background) and I don’t want to come off as naive or ignorant! Any advice would be welcomed. Thank you!

This is probably a dumb question but if you are on a local project, do you still get a per diem?

I am new to consulting and I have never felt more insecure. I am the subject matter expert for my team and a liaison with the client but most of the technical stuff is going over my head. I think part of the issue is that I feel like I am going to have to defend every choice I make. I am not used to that and I just don't get some concepts. Also, there are not many women and I have worked in mainly female work environments until now.

I like my team and my leaders. I value the strong support network, the learning and growth opportunities, the exposure to leadership, the investment of time in mentoring me, etc. What I struggle with is comp. Market value is double, and I know the firm won’t match that and it’ll take me years to even get to those numbers. Is it time to go?

A former Manager reached out about an e-commerce manager role for a relatively young company doing $35M/year. The role manages inventory on the site (20 skus), CRO, and Analytics plus the e-tailers (Amazon). They launched a site redesign and CVR tanked, but from what I gather they have too much of a focus on Paid Social and upper-funnel tactics. They’re hiring for a Demand Gen Analyst/Manager from a different manager. So, the roles report into different people. Question below:
