Is this article accurate? I’m in big law, but I’d much rather be doing privacy/working in tech and am CIPP certified. Are there privacy PMs really pulling in this much?

It sounds like she is an excellent networker - 7,000 LinkedIn followers! I don’t think this is an average salary.
Yeah it’s just difficult to believe. I mean, that’s more than a lot of in house counsel folk are making
I'm skeptical and suspect she may be counting things in her "total compensation" that might be something other than base+bonus. Also her number conceivably could count equity/options in a startup that could ultimately prove to be wireless.
This is not salary. This is “ total comp”, which in tech usually means equity, usually with a lengthy vesting schedule. Also, total comp includes benefits such as healthcare, sign on bonus, year end bonus, 401k matching, etc.
This does not seem right. I don’t think it’s a lie necessarily, but she’s probably at the extreme end of the spectrum and doing some math with bonus and equity on top of base.
No.
Even as a FAANG PPM I didn’t earn that much. Def an outlier.
No
Our privacy compliance team makes more than I do in privacy legal. With stock definitely close to 400 TC
I prefer legal work but I have considered transitioning teams. A lot of ex lawyers in compliance
Would someone without a Law Degree be able to reach similar salaries in Privacy as those who are lawyers?
Generally no, but I do know a few senior-ish non lawyers who definitely make more than junior lawyers.
