As you know, when you bid on a contract, everyone needs a piece. I was at coopers (now pwc). Anderson and Avanade/accenture. Each bid had to include $ for management, other people not on the project. One bid, we had a lock on due to my personal relationship, they added 6 additional people, off shore, and three inflated management drones so everyone was billable. 3x the cost estimate. Lost the contract.
An Indian company, who won, bid himself as pm/tech/adm at a good rate plus a couple of tech offshore.
This us what us killing us in consulting.
MBBs don’t realise that their hire and fire model doesn’t help them with their current scale. We’re now flooding the market with consultants that dilutes the value proposition of strategy consulting.
They didn't fire enough of them.

We’re hanging in there.
One of the things driving us not to hire them, is the believe that they wont be happy with the current comp, and that they are a flight risk.
Generalists are having a tough time here.
I haven't seen AI skills really push through in recruiting yet.
Interesting you say they won’t be happy with comp. I mean MBB / T2 comps are pretty similar. Big 4 pays pretty close at the post-MBA level. Yes there are variances but it isn’t like McKinsey pays 30% above market.
What is your ideal profile then? Because anyone coming from the usual suspects would most likely have the same reaction to the comp offered.
The only consulting firms that seem to be growing/hiring are A&M and for some reason EYP
We are not growing. We just laid off so many people that we are now sold out.

Compared to ? Big4 ?

Not surprising. Market is trash right now. Curious on what roles all these ex-McK folks departed from as we have not seen big layoffs this year.
It’s been a banner year over at McK in 2026. They now have 60K employees 🤯

Ya its specifically just mckinsey. Not bain, not big, not big 4. Just mckinsey.

I’m wondering how do you know they’ve been fired? I’m guessing they don’t disclose it when they apply..is it just an assumption?
A1 - Given the up or out model and the current job market, it is a pretty safe assumption to make they were fired.
Unless you think somehow consultants are leaving voluntarily just to sit unemployed for a year.
Which is more likely?
