The problem might be that you are staying in the same company. Less and less is there a big pay jump if you aren't going somewhere else. I would consider taking it just so you have a better title to transition out with if you want to. No guarantees, but easier to go out with that higher title and find something more on par with what you want.
if the new role offers exposure to bigger clients or skillsets, it could be a strategic stepping stone. But if you’re already underpaid and overworked, don’t feel obligated to accept scraps just for optics. You’ve earned the right to ask for more.
I mean, it doesn't hurt to explore your options. If somebody else is willing to give you more money for the same job, go for that. Employees should always be deeply self-interested when it comes to their careers. I think you can even leverage the new offer against future offers.
If the new role will give you more responsibility and room to grow, it could be worth it, but if you’re not feeling valued in terms of pay or opportunity, you might be better off looking elsewhere. Sometimes it’s about weighing the experience you'll gain versus how much it’s worth in the long run.
If you accept the new role, you can use potentially use it as a great stepping stone to a new company that might value your skill set better. It never hurts to have a look around at the market to see what’s out there.
5K is 2.50 an hour, assuming a 40 hour week. If you work more than that, then it's even less money per hour. I don't know your industry, but is the increased work and responsibility really worth only two dollars and fifty cents per hour?
