I’ve been offered a new job which looks like something I’d definitely be interested in. The only catch is that it’s quite far away, we’re talking about 1.5 hours drive. Just wondering what people consider as too far to be commuting every day into the office?

1.5 hrs x 2 x 260days= 780 hrs/ 24hrs=32.5 days in year just to drive. One month in a year just to drive

That’s a very good way of looking at it actually. Not worth it at all, especially as I wouldn’t be getting paid for it

I regret my 40min-1hr commute but I’m 5 days in office and have a toddler at home.

like

How close would you realistically want to be to the office?

You don't state your circumstances, but is it possible for you to move closer to the job eventually?

like

I can move in around 9-12 months time which I may be tempted to do

I would consider it if I was willing and able to move closer after some time to make sure the job is as good as it appears. 1.5 hours each way is doable for a while, but probably not really sustainable long term.

I might be able to move closer in the next 9-12 months but not sure I’d be willing to stick out the long commute for that long. It’s a tough one

Depends on if it's hybrid or you're expected to go 5 days a week. Is that 1.5 hours each way or roundtrip? If it's 2 days a week in office, 1.5 hours roundtrip, that isn't too bad.

5 days a week in the office

How many days per week? A 1.5 hour drive each way for 5 days per week might be a no from me. That's 3 hours per day in driving alone, plus the 8-9 hours per day at the location, that's 11-12 hours each day. After a while this will be exhausting, and you would want to be doing something else.

But it's up to you to decide how far is too far to drive each way. Also have to take into consideration the price of gas, rare and tear on your vehicle.

Thanks for the feedback, it’s definitely something I’m still thinking about because the job does seem really appealing. I think there’s a chance that I might just regret it after a little while though

If it's 1.5 hours each way, absolutely not

That’s what I’m leaning towards thinking as well

Is the specialist position in PwC India equivalent to analyst or senior analyst? Is it the junior most hierarchy level in the organisation or is it second last in the succession ladder?

One of the company asked if i could join as early as in 1.5/2 months where I have 3 months NP and haven't put papers yet .. i asked one of my senior in my team about this who's already resigning...and she has told about this to the entire team 😶. I realise it's my mistake asking her :p
Now that I'm not hearing back from the company which I gave interview and my environment at current project is a mess atm...Should I just put papers or bear with it till I fine another one..??

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.
