Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

100% there is a huge difference in pay for US employees vs Asia/EU etc.
The tax structures, cost of living, benefits, and culture all impact pay. As a US employee you’re pretty much guaranteed to be making more, just as a base, than European counterparts.
You also have to account for the tradeoffs. In the US you’re paying for healthcare, retirement, and tax structures vary widely across states. In most places in Europe a lot of their basics are already covered. The cost of getting a US education is also factored into some salaries.

VP1 - that’s good. Mane they’ve created that culture to rest. Some companies value the extra hours more. I personally leave and don’t check my email. My boss is okay with all that.

All I can say is that pay and tax liability is based on where you live. You should be paid based on your skills and experience and your location. What any company does is anyone’s guess. In general they try to pay as little as possible, probably even less if it’s 100% remote.

Probably true. We don’t really ever know what any company actually bases their pay on.
Absolutely yes. Even us based companies play differently for European offices

Oh I see. Thank you
