I’ve been with my company in the equilavent of a senior adjuster role for 4 years in general/legal liability. I’ve got another 3 years prior in auto/homeowners insurance as an adjuster. I’m looking at a promotion but not positive if I want to stay in claims or shift to a different dept. What’s the leap like from an adjuster role to claims supervisor role? What were the new/different challenges? Which did you find have better work-life balance or ability to take your PTO?

There are definitely challenges with being a supervisor; managing people is never easy. As far as WLB and taking time off, I really think that depends on the company you work for. My company is really good about encouraging us to take time off and use our PTO.

I’d be looking at a lateral transfer then, most likely Risk Management (a lot of my work presently intersects and I have an interest there too). However, I might consider People & Culture or Communications if positions open up due to my personal interest levels and extra work I volunteer for for my company.

You oversee a large amount of claims and have to step out of controlling them rather give technical support and guidance. The biggest change is leading a group of staff, so much that goes along with that! Not all good, not all bad. Having a mentor would help.

Hi everyone! I’m currently open to a new role after working for 5 years at my agency. Most of my work at the agency has involved management, community engagement, data analysis, communications, and visual design.

I have been talking to a recruiter for a little over a month about a position. I let her know out the gate that I really wasn’t looking to change jobs, but she just kept wanting to continuing the conversation. I didn’t have 2 interviews with the hiring coming and they know that I am not really looking to make a switch. They are now working on an offer letter and I know they’re going to offer me more money. I’m having my annual review this week. Any advice on how to handle a) job offer b) review?
