Manger (SAE) & Senior Manager (AS) salary ranges at Edelman, Weber and W2O? Need some guidance on three offers.

@OP I’m a bit confused by your comments - could you clarify if you’ve already got the offers/salaries in hand and are looking to negotiate or if you’re just anticipating the #s? Also is your background in depth healthcare / regulatory (eg FDA exp), and what type of agency (large, boutique, international, etc) you’re coming from? That could help folks in this bowl give you better advice. Also noting that my close friend was at W2O in healthcare and left due to culture not being super great, and lack of diversity, but that was a few years ago so may be better now.

As an Edelman SAE, I would recommend not skipping that step and refrain from taking too high of a salary. You’re still able to learn a lot and get a little slack as you grow, which will really not be the case at AS/AM. Think long term of what you want you’re next two or three steps to be - don’t pigeon hole yourself too early just for a couple extra thousand now :)

Haven’t worked at the Edelmans and Weber Shandwicks, but seeing these very low salary numbers — foreseeing future articles introspecting how horrible big PR agencies paid junior staffers.

like

D2 - I’m sorry but 24k in Boston 12 years ago is miles away from 50k in nyc right now. I have lived in NYC, SF, DC, London, and Baltimore (so a sampling including most of the world’s most expensive cities) and have a significant chunk of my friend group in Boston and costs are vastly different between places like NYC/SF and Boston. Rent alone is incredibly different. I could probably afford a 2bedroom in Boston on my current NYC salary. Also, median income in the US is not a helpful metric to reference here when cost of living varies so much between different geographies. You shouldn’t be telling people to make different decisions you should be asking why our industry forces people to live the way you were living. Given the sheer amount of work and hours most PR folks put in, and some of the amounts we bill clients, it’s ludicrous to see the problem as folks’ budgeting and financial choices and not the industry at large failing to properly value labor and talent. I had multiple months where I’d bill my entire yearly salary for my firm and all I got was an extra thousand or so on my bonus. This kind of thinking and this compensation model are why our industry is so homogenous. It just perpetuates a culture where primarily white, primarily upper middle class to wealthy people are the only ones able to afford to intern/start out in PR.

Location and specialty? Also, what level is your offer for at Edelman? SAE is not a manager role, AS is a manager and SAS is Sr. Manager.

like

Echo this. The worst thing you can do at Edelman is go in at too high a level. Our recruiters are usually really good at making sure you’re right, but if not, it can result in failure quickly.

like

If you’re in healthcare you should be amping up these numbers - the market is insane right now and talent is so in demand. I’d say it’s 70-80 for a healthcare SAE and 85-95 for an Account Supervisor. Looking at the titles you’re using above those are reflective of W2O, who is known to pay WELL to get talent in the door. Note that what your healthcare experience is will impact the above - big pharma or in depth data/regulatory is worth more.

like

^ agreed!

At Weber, Manager is one title above SAE. We underpay our staff a lot btw... SAEs in NY get paid around 55k to 70k depending on if you’ve been promoted within or are agency hopping. Also, managers make around 70k here.

like

God I’m sorry WS1 and various Es. I’m a bit inflated from starting out at a big name crisis shop before leaving for my current boutique doing financial PR, but when I was an SAE here I was at $85K—there’s better out there if you want to / are able to leave!

like

I was an SAE T Edelman and got 68 but it’s not a manager role...

like

Nope! My managers were account sup, account director, VP & SVP. I didn’t manage anyone

helpful

AS at Edelman making $85, but took a lot to get it. They underpay staff. Also it’s a tough place to work. Happy to discuss!

Chicago

I was manager level at W2O Group about 6 years ago and made $70k. With inflation and the way the market is now, I’d say you could fairly ask for more than that.

like

Currently started at W2O as manager and making 90k. FYI i come from a diverse background with no prior healthcare experience. I asked for 95k, alas that was too high

like

Thank you for sharing and data always makes bank! We can’t thrive without analytics. I’m a bit under 90k and I think it’s fair since I only have
4+. However, I do hope they provide good raises and bonus.

London: AM is £30-30k. SAM is £35-40k.

Feeling grateful & proud as I reached my goal ($50K by 25) 5 months early. But I can’t help feeling a bit overwhelmed. In the lifelong scheme of things, $50K doesn’t seem like much. I worked really hard and sacrificed a lot (including mental health) to get to this but it seems a little tiring knowing I still have so long to go. I recently moved out and in with my BF so my expenses are split, but nonetheless they are still expenses. Any tips on continuing this journey and keeping the drive?

Hi I have asked to be an advisor for a startup. Its in its very early stage pre pre-seed. Its looking like weekly strategy calls and possibly some executional work as well. Like building out a sales process and/or training sales and marketing team members (this might be 1-3hr a week of work).

They are offering 1.5-3.5%. — I am wondering if that’s enough.

In addition to this the founder mentioned that he would like me to consider becoming a co-founder.

Anyone have any thoughts on a fair salary for a part time virtual tax prep-focused position? I’ve been made an offer for south of 800 hours/year (fluctuating for seasonal ebb and flow, of course), and I’m curious whether it’s a decent offer or not. I have 13 years of experience in a big box franchise where I’ve handled complex returns from day 1. 30% of my workload has been 1120/1120S/1065 and the rest higher-level 1040s and a few 1041s & 990s. I’ll be bringing 75-100 clients with me.
