How is performance measured at MBB?
Hi guys :) Glad to join fishbowl and this community. Guys I have an offer of 14.41 ctc from a big 4 (11 is fixed).
Technology-Microsoft Dynamics 365(I am a functional consultant in SCM and HR; Relevant exp: 3 yrs & Total exp: 4 yrs).
My interviews in IBM are done and I am waiting for the salary discussion with HR.
What is the likely offer that I am going to get? Any idea? (My expectation is 16.5 lpa ctc). I will adjust my expectations as per replies here.
Any response is highly appreciated :)
What are base salaries at for B4 M1s in FDD now?
Bain & Company I’m from Italy and will start my master’s degree at Oxbridge this fall. I got my undergrad from a target uni in continental Europe. I want to start my career in consulting, possibly MBB, in London. I know consulting firms tend to hire locally but I’d really like to work in London and that’s also one of the main reasons why I went for the Oxbridge degree. Anyone, who might have some tips, or went through a similar experience? McKinsey & Company Boston Consulting Group Bain & Company
So I just recently passed my CPA exams and I’m now looking for new opportunities. I’m hoping to work at a big 4 firm in tax and possibly connect with anyone working there right now. Please reach out to me, I would look forward to connecting and learning more about potential opportunities. Thanks!EY PwC Deloitte KPMG

In other news, water is wet
Cuz our slides are sooooooo pretty
This guy sounds like a Cleveland Browns fan asking why the Patriots are always in the Super Bowl.
What is you question why is the MBB doing what they do best?
It's a feeder system. A lot of top execs are ex MBB. They will go back to their established relationship. A lot of CIO are ex ACN so we get a lot of tech business. That's just how things work. It's not just price and implementation it's also heavy on relationships.
Yes you’ve asked the right question at the right place
The sad thing is that McK and BCG charge ~5x more than us. It’s insane
Keep at it, we don’t always win since you guys are so much cheaper
Just like in the old days, when nobody gets fired for buying IBM. Nobody gets fired for using MBB, even if more costly
Low margin revenue. The Walmart of Consulting work
Coming from firm that charges like MBB, B4 are substantially more competitive on price. If there’s a job that Big 4 / Acc can sufficiently deliver, then I don’t think we can compete - there’s just no way of justifying the price premium in such cases.
I think OW can justify those premiums only in cases where we can prove that deep industry expertise can provide better results than anyone else, hence our emphasis on a few industries (FS, aviation, retail, etc). I suspect the story for MBB is similar - if a client can afford the price, and an MBB firm can demonstrate track record of superior performance, I don’t think B4 will win that work.
Then again I’m a snot nosed newbie in the industry, what do I know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is also fascinating to me cuz I’ve worked MBB and Big 4. My compensation between the two has actually been pretty even too. More beach time at MBB less at Big 4.
Correct - the gap is margin...
^ exactly. Surprised it took this many responses to get to the true reason. It's all about relationships. MBB alum own the c suite so that's where they look.
Ok in all honesty I did a short stint at a Big4. Intern and some full time- the quality of strategy work we produce here (at least at BCG) is much much better. A lot more insightful, answering second order questions, pushing the boundaries of what was asked of us. That being said, the big4 IT/PMO/implementation/org capabilities I saw are far better and more informed than what BCG can do.
Ummm.... I don’t think that’s true!! Why do ppl think this?!? I’ve seen the numbers (came from Corp and significant other is a corporate exec). NOT true. MBB’s prices simply are NOT 5X Big 4!
^ also known as partner comp
What is the price difference? At MBB here and know our rates. How much does big 4 charge for a pre mba or post mba consultant or project manager / week?
Define “real money”?
They’re probably way more expensive, too. You need a good approach, well articulated, with a track record of delivering value, and perhaps assets (like proprietary data sets) that differentiate.
