Just curious from the post below: is there a diversity hire at McKinsey & Company? I guess everyone needs to pass the same bar but maybe they get a little extra push than non-diverse candidates?

I’ve worked very closely with our diversity hiring team. The bar is absolutely the same for every candidate. The only difference for diversity hiring is the breadth of the pipeline and the proactivity of recruitment. (Basically, you might be more likely to see us at a conference or to be proactively reached out to.) You still have to pass the same requirements, the net is just cast more broadly.

Do those hires get promoted at the same rate as others?

Black female and recently hired by mck. I was at a target school and no special treatment or extra workshops given to me since my business school had a ton of resources for everyone.

The term “diversity hire” is problematic bc it assumes people with diverse profiles wouldn’t otherwise be hired, especially not over people without diverse profiles. What should we call those hires? Lame hires? Same hires? Hires of the global minority? Hires of no color?

@M1 agreed! More pointing out the term used by OP, who I assume is not at the firm :)

I know for a fact that some diversity candidates were offered additional training, eg first round interview stopped midway through because they were tanking, and told “we think you need additional practice” and then routed to a consultant (eg me) to give them some more practice cases I personally did not lower my bar for diverse candidates, but the above is true

Had people seen at Qb to be bumped into a level/title higher just to match a competing offer. Totally opposed it

Those metrics are tracked and celebrated but like you stated the bar is the same for all candidates

Hey everyone, I am a current rising college senior coming from a no target school. Since my sophomore year, I’ve wanted to work at Goldman Sachs. Now that the applications are almost open for next year’s new analyst roles. I’m really interested in applying in their internal audit and risk division. Has anyone ever interviewed with GS or done their hirevue? I would love to hear some tips on how I can boost my chance of getting interviewed. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

What are some reasons to decline a second interview? I recently interviewed for an Internal Audit role but I didn’t feel like the pay range matched the job. This IA role is for a small credit union and you’ll be the only IA. It’s a new role they came up with this year as different departments would have a a role at different audits. Their pay range is 65K - 75K DOE.

Starting full time at McKinsey in November. Curious to know what it’s like for fellow gender non-conforming folk, as well as non-binary and trans folks at the firm (or as consultants in general!) Are there any trans/non binary people at your firm/office location, regardless of your firm? Just trying to gauge what kind of world I’m stepping into.

I am currently unemployed but I am very curious about everyone’s company signature having she/her or he/him or they displayed. Are companies forcing people to write the pronouns you need to choose? I honestly never understood why somebody that wasn’t in the LGBTQ community would specify, and I know people are doing it to show support but if I started working again I don’t think I would want to put that in my signature. It seems political. What are your thoughts?

I’m not talking about mask usage, hand washing times, physical distancing in classrooms, etc. I don’t think we can expect Ts and Ss to come back and just hop right into academics. Need sometime to process together, get some SEL, be face to face social again, etc. Just wondering if districts out there have gotten a head start on this task.

Random Question - I live with a roommate for the last 2 years now. We have become really good friends and she is like a sister to me. We used to hangout and do a lot of fun stuff before COVID. When I make a plan to do something during COVID, I always include her to do or go somewhere. Of late, when she makes plans, she goes on her own or if she goes with her friends (whom I know), she would not invite me. I feel left out and sad because of it. I think I should not feel that way as she can
