Has anyone made an exit as project manager in biotech? Considering a role but not sure if it’ll actually improve WLB or if I’ll just be herding cats all day.

Interviewed for a senior analyst position, given salary and equity upfront, and was told I was obvious candidate and qualified.

Got offer but HR apparently thinks since role requires 4 YOE, I don't qualify for senior position and thus the salary and equity bands are ~10% less.

Is this red flag? Or is this typical HR bullshit I should respect? How hard is it for a mid size company to make exceptions, or am I being given the runaround?
