I just had jury duty. I never actually had to go into the court house. Every day, they told me I didn't have to go in so it worked out for me. If you are worried about pay, you can let the judge know and they usually release you.
My agency guarantees pay for jury duty, but I am concerned about the impact my absence will have on my job, especially in this environment.
Legally they have to allow
You to go in. Likely you’ll have a job code to bill those hours to.
I received a job to bill to, but immediately upon sharing the news my manager seemed immediately annoyed and asked if I tried to get out of it, even making outlandish suggestions on what lies I should tell to be dismissed. Didn't realize this is something I would need to navigate sensitively
You can postpone I think twice (NY). I suggest you do that if you can.
On the bright side, if they fire you for this, you’ll be eligible for a fat lawsuit payout.
Maybe you won't have to attend. The last time I received a notice I had to call the Friday before to see if I was still needed, sometimes the case settles and then you're just not needed anymore. My husband just recently got called and he wasn't dismissed by phone so he still had to appear, but he wasn't selected after questioning, this is when you try to get out of it. All 3 physicians that were also called, we're selected to be on the jury tho, one of which said she was the only physician in her practice and had no clinical coverage. The court didn't care tho and said she was still selected, so probably lost revenue for her there. Good luck, almost any excuse is not valid to get out of jury duty.
