I really liked Trinet as a platform especially since there are so many state laws in the US. It's hard to keep up with them all.
JustWorks is very simplistic, and in turn, is very limited in customization. Their UX is closer to a phone app, which is great for the end user, but for backend HR it’s really hard to pull reports. They also push an automated payroll that runs regardless of if anyone signs off on it, and most small-mid companies are not comfortable with that. “Set it and forget it” is dangerous at 80-160 people.
That said, TriNet is a bit of a dinosaur in the industry. Their backend UX is great, but their end user UX is clunky.
They’re really going from one extreme to the other.
Rising Star
Agree with HCC1. Implemented TriNet in previous company. Decided against Justworks because of pricing, although it had a better end user experience. Overall TriNet has decent UI, but my expectations for customizations and features weren’t really high in the first place since their clients are mostly SMBs and not enterprise.
We never had any big issues from end users. Payroll ran fine, benefits/open enrollment okay, and employee self-service is better than most other PEO platforms. I will say that your experience will really vary depending on your assigned Account Manager/Customer Success team. They can be really responsive, or be hard to reach depending on your relationship with them.
We have not, but I would be curious to hear why you are transitioning to justworks. We are considering signing on with them.
Thanks everyone! From what I gathered during my first week, Justworks’s customer service has been very poor and though the system seems easy to use from an employee’s standpoint, it is very limited from an admin’s perspective. And what HCC1 said is very true: Justworks pushes an automated payroll which is not ideal as we’d like to have some sort of review/approval process rather than a passive one (I used Ceridian Dayforce before and I’m used to a 4-step payroll process which consisted in calculating payroll, locking payroll, validating payroll then submitting it). Justworks may be good for a much smaller company, maybe 20 people.
It seems TriNet answered many needs, including great benefits rates and plan options, integrations with other systems, modules such as WC claim management, performance review management and sexual harassment trainings which we would use, and they offer HR expertise in most areas of HR which is going to be helpful since we are hiring in many different states.
