Likely part of your company negotiated rates.
The refuel at my Avis in Midtown Manhattan is $10/gallon
Are you sure? In 8 years of going there back and forth I’ve never seen a price under $9 a gallon
I was told to get fuel plans every time. Our time isn't worth looking for a gas pump.
Maybe they messed up? Stations in/around the airport are usually $0.20 more than if you went a couple miles out of the airport. The car companies usually charge $1+ more than normal!
@a1 I thought something like this as well but this has only happened here. Previously it’s been $7-10 per gallon. Will try again next week and report back
I’ve rented a few cars in Chicago, city not the airports, and it was also $3 per gallon for Hertz’s refueling fee.
Accenture has deals with Hertz to get cheaper gas. These are negotiated long in advance. I haven't personally refueled a rental in months
For Avis Ive seen this happen but it depends on the mileage. By any chance were you below 75 Miles. I believe that’s the threshold so if you drove less than that you get the cheap gas rate
2 fuel rates: 1) pre-paid gas (likely to be market rate) 2) when you dont bring in the tank full (absurd rate)
Sometimes the fuel service will also automatically charge for the whole tank and not the refuel.
Are you sure you weren't looking at the "buy the whole tank" option?
We have a negotiated fuel service rate with Avis (usu around $3/gal). Plus we get points on the spend and it simplifies expensing. What's not to love?
Every corporate rate has a fuel rate in it too. If they charge you the retail rate that's a mistake by the check out agent. It happened to me a couple of times then I called customer service to get the rate adjusted. Now I just tell the check out agent to charge me corporate fuel rate every time I return the car. This is for Hertz.
Put about 170 miles on it, definitely only $3/gal. Stated it on the receipt and I calced it myself. Pretty pumped for this new development as the gas stations around LAX Avis aren’t the nicest...
