In my experience, switching to another agency has a tendency to reignite some enthusiasm and push back the burn out. It gives you an opportunity to set new boundaries with a clean slate.
I’m not sure you could. To a recruiter it could be a potential red flag of laziness. Not saying that’s the case, but just from an optics standpoint that’s how it might read. If you can’t handle the senior position here it might be better to just look for a different spot.
Just out of curiosity what are the duties?
Titles are relative: One place’s CD is another place’s mid-level creative. Talk through the substance of the roles and responsibilities you’d thrive at. When I moved to in-house I was interviewing for a CD position, at one point during the interview the recruiter brought up an ACD role they had open. Since I wanted to be more hands-on so it suited me better. I got the gig and got paid comparably to an agency CD (today about 250k all-in) with a less stressful job with decent hours and job security - I take ownership of most of my projects, run and sell them independently, I’m sought for projects that need to push the brand to more interesting places and mentor junior creatives - I’m essentially running a CD-level operation. On that front I think I’ve won. On the flip side I’ve learned the hard way that career progression in-house is basically bullshit. Not sure what the effect on my career will be after being under-titled for 7 years but I’m hoping the substance of how I conduct myself and how good the work is will speak louder than a title.
They might be prioritizing filling this role over the more junior role or even one or the other, so it might be you either way. I wouldn’t risk it. Easier said than done, but take it and try to set boundaries. It’s tough out there.
