Yes and no. Yes, it's nice to know someone thought about you to get you something. No, experiences are definitely better.

I just want to spend time with my guy. Gifts are nice, but I prefer that at Christmas when I can give one back.

like

Nope! I'm a foodie as well 😎🐠🐙🍌🌶🍤🥒🥙🥗🥘🍆🍅<and that about represents how I eat 😂

like

Yep - give me that over buying me crap ANY DAY.

like

I'm not a gold digger but I think gifts are thoughtful. I like the other things too, but I'm not going to pretend like gifts don't mean just as much

like

Experience is better but something personal doesn't have to be pricy is a great gesture too

EY2 glad to hear. Some people are stingy with that. I'm jealous.

Not really. Id rather have quality time... maybe a nice vacation?

Reciprocating is important on many levels.

like

That seems like an easy out. I would have done the cleaning myself.

like

Yes, but it's about the cost. My favorite gift for Christmas was a coffee mug with my favorite NFL logo. I'm much more touched by something thoughtful than something expensive.

like

Better than a gift is a hand written card. A note that really means something. You don't have to be in love to do this, it can say what your favorite part about them is, or favorite memory. But hand written!

like

@PwC 2 yeah he and I were never going to clean this pigsty ourselves

like

YES.

^ do you put out at least. I spent a shit ton on my ex wife and she never put out. She was probably banging other dudes though.

I was reading a post in another group that asked how folks were celebrating Diwali outside of India and 2 people mentioned that their whole street (in the US) exchanged sweets, put up lights, and pitched in for a community firecrackers permit. This had me wondering if this happened in the US for Eid as well in cites where there is a big Muslim population. Also, how do you all celebrate Eid? For folks who are grew up in the west, is there anything you plan on doing differently with your kids?

The week of my wedding, my husband (PL SQL Developer 4 yoe) was laid off. That was a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I'm still bringing money in as a software engineer, but I'm looking for advice on how to support a partner who has been laid off. Ultimately I think we will be ok, but I know he's hurting / stressed / and could use a supportive partner.

Does anyone else feel like people who are generally nice in person and on calls sound mean or stand-offish in emails and text/chat? I get that over-use of friendliness in text can come off as green/immature, but I tend to try and cushion my words with positivity or even exclamation marks/the occasional emoji to show that I don't sound completely unemotional.

Or maybe i'm just an overthinking copywriter who's reading into it too much.
