Live in a smallish southern city and my roommate is going to be leaving town before the lease is up. Rather than her getting subleasers, I’m going to take the rent over for the last two months.

I’d like to stay in the same apartment complex but can’t sustainably pay (about) the same amount long term. How much do we think I could try to negotiate rent down? Rent right now would be between $1200-1300 monthly. Start them at $900 and see how it goes? Or lower/higher?

Hey, new to investing looking at initial mistakes I made. I have $1k in VOO, $7k in VT and $4k in VTI in my brokerage acct; in my Roth IRA I have $6k in VT and $7.7k in VTI. Say I put $1k into a stock, it doubles, so now I have $2k, can I withdraw my initial investment of $1k without paying taxes or does this still create a taxable event? I’m concerned since I technically sold my initial shares for a profit but I didn’t sell for a gain above my initial investment.
