A guy that I’ve been seeing over the past few months just lost his job - what can I do to support him? Not his SO and we are quarantining with our respective families on opposite coasts, but I like him a lot and want to show that I care without being overbearing/overstepping boundaries. BTW he’s also a consultant and got let go after reviews due to performance reasons and his firm not doing so well.

Box of his favorite candy/chocolate and a handwritten “thinking of you, hope this brightens your day” card?

like

Is he a words person? gift person? Quality time person? You can do all three. But spend more time on one love language that he vibes to more.
Words: “Hey babe, how’s everything going with you? How’s your day?” If they’re venting, reassure them and check to see how they’re feeling and listen to them.
Gift: think of a something that they want because it’ll help them be a better version of themselves + something they want (like new wetsuit if they surf)
Quality time: lots of video calls and lengthy

helpful

Ask him?

Send him a self help book on work ethic and a stale cookie.

Wait... performance reasons?

As AM1 said, send him a handwritten card with some token. If you are in similar roles, offer to be a referral.

But watch out for performance reasons. One time could be an anomaly. But more than once....

OP — I only said it because I know many people who spent their lives blaming others for their repeated career failings. For but one example, I immediately thought of a person who had a great job in consulting and has since had nothing but part time gigs as a PM, had a divorce, lost connection with his kids, drinks every day and keeps blaming others because of his failures.

Related: I was also just cautioning as a team lead would do. An analyst who has one bad review is unfortunate. Two bad reviews, probably unlucky. Three bad reviews, goodbye.

Work and personal life shouldn’t be mixed. Bad reviews at work are not a good representation of how well a person does as a potential SO. I apologize.

I overstepped in my reaction. I was mixing work with personal life. Sorry.

This is the only bowl I can think to post in, but I'm really feeling it today. Has anyone lost their best friend (i.e. through time/growing up) and feel like none of their current friends could live up to the fun/connection you used to have with your high school BFF? I feel like I put too much focus on that one friend and also my boyfriend and just never actually made time for anyone else. I fucked myself over.

Brought my gf sushi take out to her house when she got off of work. She didn't like the meal I got her and started to eat the roll i got for myself. Well, I was the one who broke it off. I couldn’t get him to love me the way I needed or even respect me enough. It’s been 6 weeks of not seeing each other. We messaged this week. He doesn’t get it…. His messages show he still doesn’t know what he wants. Yet, if I am totally honest, I hate how part of me wishes he would do a grand gesture/finally decide to be a better man. It’s delusional. It’s crazy how love can be so rosy, sweet & blinding that the red flags seem surmountable.

Hi guys

This question may not be related. However I wanted to know from personal and family point of view how it is like to relocate from India and live abroad .
Let's say Family consists of husband , wife and a kid . I understand we will get good facilities, education, cleanliness , good air etc , however I wanted to check whether people gel up easily in the new environment? Don't they feel loneliness/ difficult to adjust? Do they look for similar asian nationalities to kill boredom?

So my brother doesn't talk to me for 6 months.   (I had offered my lake house guest space to my cousin who said yes instead of my brother who didn't know if he could come nor when he might know if he could come, how unfair of me).

On Thanksgiving day mom arrives and tells me that brother might come by in an hour.  He had ignored my invite weeks ago.  (Uh ok, sure).
