I did the reverse due to a project in an AA hub city. Going in I thought there wouldn’t be major differences, and I was exec plat 2014-2016.
Wow is United noticeably better. There aren’t major specific differences, but there are numerous little annoyances on AA that United does not have. UA advantages:
Far more E+ seats
Queues at the gate area eliminate most gate lice
More consistency in aircraft (easier to remember which seats are the good ones)
GA and FAs just seem a bit more chill / less power hungry
Seat map is viewable always, whereas AA blocks within 45min (useful to see if it makes sense to squat somewhere else after standbys have boarded)
I seem to end up with empty middle seats more on UA (I think the GAs see where elite customers are sitting, and try to avoid putting standbys next to them)
Newer planes
More widebody planes on domestic routes
Overall just feels less cheap
Better same day change policy
But AA has better WiFi
United’s FF program is easy to use. Star Alliance has good deals with partner airlines
What flavor would you like your poison.
