Mine was the same way and finally turned the corner at 3. Even then he still only makes what he calls “nocturnal stinkies” (in the bathroom with no lights). It looked bleak for us in the 10 or so weeks until it finally clicked. Keep trying but don’t push too hard. What helped is we stacked all the diapers in his room and told him those were all that were left. He slowly watched them dwindle down and then made 1 with 6 diapers left.
3 years old isn't super late. Our 4 year old only came around recently.
Barring any external deadline (e.g. preschool, daycare, etc.), I would just be patient. Not worth the frustration.
Something like preschool in the fall could also be a positive motivator to encourage the kid to come around on his/her own.
Everyone potty training advice is that 3 days full on worked for me. And we’ve tried, but it didn’t work. Are we really the only bad parents (*joking*) out there or was it actually hard for some of you too?
The 3 day plan works for some supposedly...but sometime I feel like we are on the 3 year plan 😳
I went through the exact same thing with one of my boys. Perseverance is key! We tried a number of tactics until we found some that worked
Frustrating. Keep at it. Every kid is different. They aren’t any 8 olds with this problem. They’ll all get there.
My first 2 didn’t walk until 16 months but potty trained fully at 26 months with nighttime by 32
Right there with you. Absolute nightmare with my 3 yo. He is now 3years and 8 months and we are still not 100% there. It’s much older than when most kids get there, but you can only force it so much. Pull ups are the worst and so is day care - these two things have set us back a year imo.
We got lucky with good external motivators - done by 2yo. He loved getting to watch some YouTube for asking to go potty. And when that was not available we did chocolate chips. We are still riding that train at 3.5 now.
Try reading a fave book while in there..
