Looking for ‘thank you’ gift ideas for a CPA whose referral resulted in a $27M account. Any ideas for something in the $3 - $5 thousand range?

Interesting... are you an RIA? I'm independent but my BD has limits on gifts... $100 per person per year....

like

That’s an industry wide maximum

like

Good luck getting that past compliance—maybe give them some referrals ?

like

First, congrats. Second, you’re asking a bunch of people that don’t know the CPA. if you don’t have a good enough relationship to know what they would want, grab drinks/dinner, find out what they are into and buy them something they will actually want

like

My point was that a 27mm account with reoccurring revenue commands a very personal gift. If he/she likes biking, go buy a 5k bike. If it’s fine dining, find the best chef in the area and hire them as a personal chef for the night. Get creative based on what you know about them

like

$27m???? U or KPMG should buy them a house not $3-5k!!!!!

funny

Nice humblebrag!

like

So you know that this is not compliant and your willing to break the rules “under the table”. That doesn’t sound very honorable. Perhaps the CPA recognizes the value of the work that you do and gave you the referral for that reason. That could taint the relationship

like

Of course this is not compliant , it’s all under the table. 5k in a brown paper bad always works !!

Have your wife give him the gift

funny

Wow .. that’s a great referral. Good for you!

Maybe pay their vacation.

Give the client a good deal and take great care of him. Dinner with the CPA, would be nice. Perhaps you should put money towards a nice joint marketing event with the CPA for clients, or host a nice CLE event with the CPA’s firm and you can spread the good news in a tasteful way.

CFP study programs:

I'm a little confused on Danko - does he offer a self-study option for the coursework requirement? On his website it looks like each module has a 4-day virtual class which I wouldn't be able to attend due to working full time. Does this program also include self-study material, and the classes are just supplementary/optional? I was also looking at Dalton for self-study and Danko for test prep. Thoughts?
