How do I get a job as a Mechanical Engineer if I dont have experience?

I couldn’t get an internship while in school. I have a BS in ME and projects from school under my belt. I’ve also passed the FE exam. I’ve been mostly just doing CAD for a company for the last year by creating minimally dimensioned drawings and moving parts around in assemblies. I want to evolve in my career and be doing more. I worked so hard to earn my degree and I feel like I’m not even using it. But who will hire me?

Has anyone transitioned from Strategic Sales to Corporate Strategy? I love the strategic thinking and problem solving in sales and want to transfer those skills to a corporate role where I can have more influence on my company’s strategy and investments.

I left my job about a year ago to relocate, make sure it was the right decision and start a side business in the mean time. Now I’m actively looking for a new sales position, have tons of experience, but am struggling to even get a response from job apps. I am wondering if this is because of my employment gap? I had a job interview for a role that I really want. The hiring manager scheduled me for an interview and did not show up.
