I was relocated to Canada for visa purposes.. My experience was great. Had fun time in Canada.
Day 1: landed in Canada, took 3-4 hours for Immigration for first time as we need to get work permit at the airport or port of entry. (Take early morning flight if you can to get things done)
SIN (SSN equivalent) is given at the airport itself if you have one address you can provide. (Had my friend there, used his address, no proof required).
Since I have work permit and SIN I was able to get the bank acc setup.
Also got my driver license transferred. (Male sure you plan and take appointment early).
Pros: Easy life, nice people, lot of places to visit, activities are much cheaper depending on which city you are located in. ( i had a choice since job was remote, if thats the case make sure to choose small city and not city like Toronto. I chose London, I know its not small but far away from chaos. )
Cons: low salary, if work permit is closed then you are stuck with company until you get PR. High taxes. If you are keeping US salary, highest tax slab I reached was 53%. YES 53%. Everything is expensive, except the rents (again depends on location).
All the best with Relocation. Hope things go out smooth for you.
