Looks the DEI movement may be coming to an end with Trump coming in. Thoughts?

They only think it’s coming to an end. Companies need to be very careful how they navigate these waters because these are murky legal waters. Companies still need to ensure their environments are inclusive and not exclusive for all.

They're certainly trying to 86 it. I don't think it'll end, though. I think it's going to ebb and flow. There's been a lot of anti-DEI sentiment of late that I expect to turn into pro-DEI sentiment after these next 4 years.

The people handling Trump, especially Musk, have pronounced racial theories, and they want any mention of diversity purged from society. They may get that, but regardless of how prominent it is, some vestiges of it will continue. Not everyone wants an all-white society. And barely winning the popular vote by a percentage point does not mean the US became a different country overnight.

Yet, a lot of us are not!! Because damn if we have the education and experience, we’re still not qualified because we don’t have the complexion. And for the roles most minorities have, they are still criticized and told they only got the role cause of DEI, not cause of skills or education they’ve obtained. So there’s no winning but carry on.

Good. Take away the ability for people in leadership to be unfairly labeled as a DEI hire. DEI undermined leaders that were legitimately deserving and good at their jobs who happened to be minorities.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Some companies will jump on this and see it as a cost cutting measure but will suffer in the end when they lose customers

I want to ask for a 20%raise, knowing that the company is planning the year budget around now should I give my manager a heads up as to what I’m expecting before my salary review? I got a 0.6% raise at the start of 2020 and a 4% in April this year. The raise this year came with the title of “Lead” and more work responsibilities, talking with a co-worker we now make about the same amount. I started working here right out of college (10 years).

Question on on labor laws in the US:

Received an offer from Amazon but I'm concerned about negotiating hard and ending up with an offer that's on the higher end of the pay band when compared to the rest of the (future) team. My concern is during an economic downturn, it would be easier to let me go if the team needs to be downsized. This would be because I would have the least experience on the team & more expensive to retain from a cost perspective.

My concerns valid? #amazon #aws #faang

Additional Posts in Diversity & Inclusion

I'm in desperate need of tips to get genuine buy in from our predominantly white, male senior leadership to create a more inclusive environment. As is often the case, middle management and below is very diverse and then at Director+ it gets much more homogeneous. So far any real initiatives get shot down in favor of performative actions to post on SM. Is this just how it is, or can we try something different?

Feeling very frustrated right now…company talks a big game about DEI internally, while requiring new hires to move to Texas/Arizona, while the company’s PAC donates to politicians pushing extremist, regressive, anti-woman and anti-LGBT laws

They want to encourage us to “bring our whole self to work” while putting us in situations where we can’t be our whole self.

Anyone else in a similar place, feeling discouraged? Any tips?

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work. Every single suggestion I've made has been shut down and I've been ghosted for several meetings with the CEO. What should I do? Just leave?

I’m interviewing for a newly created position, Assistant Director of Communications & Outreach in my organization’s DEI office. My company has ERGs and one of them is pretty large and includes a lot of demographics. Been for a company for over 2years. The executive team is very much a boy's club. There are a few women in management roles but zero ethnicity diversity there. I raised my concern to HR in feb. And they are just now deciding to do something about it. They want me (white female) to put together a diversity committee. Any suggestions on how to go about it? How to attract volunteers to the committee? I want to make sure I get the right people involved in this, to push for changes.

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.
