I’m job hunting in Los Angeles, looking at a variety of titles (HRBP, Sr. HRBP, Manager, Sr. Manager, Director). I have 8 YOE and my SHRM-SCP. I reached my report limit on payscale.com, so I used a variety of other sites to price the roles (BLS, salary.com, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Robert Half). The problem I’m having is the huge inconsistencies between sources (there are $40k differences between some of the identified medians). (Continued…)

In some ways but that isn’t a helpful way of thinking. You are trying to predict an economic downturn, who they will cut, and your peers salaries. You don’t know any of that information. You should get as much as you can now because that is the only thing that is certain.
Grab as much as you can . There is no real downside for being greedy in USA

Not really a valid concern. Typically, during layoffs, unnecessary projects and the under performers- low hanging fruit - are cut first. Project CARE is an example of a project that is getting axed at Amazon. After that, I believe HR tends to look by salary band, so for consulting, SMs tend to be the first to go, and performance is the best indicator, not tenure/salary within the band.
