Each promotion is very very different
Asc/BA to EM promotion - no bump in comp
EM to AP promotion - Salary is standardized and you get half a share of profit split
Partner - salary is standardized and you get full share but you also have to buy in
Each of the three is very different from the others. They basically try to make it as even if a curve as they can between now and when you make partner so someone who does BA to partner in 6 years could see a 40-50% jump each year
@McK just so I understand- there’s no salary increase without a promotion? I’m wondering about annual increases sans promo :)
I don’t really get the bump to EM- why is there no bump?
Unrelated question, but do people actually make it to partner in 6 years ever? At my Tier 2 strategy firm, ~10 years is becoming more standard even for very good performers
6-7 years is standard coming out of an MBA. Salary bump depends on your rating. About 30% for top rated and 0% for issues rated.
Wow! 30% bump without a promo?! That’s amazing
title and salary before the AP and partner level are only very loosely coupled. It lets people focus on rating rather than title change, although a good performer’s title will change every 2 years... from BA it’s 40%+ because of the lower start :)
Also it let’s the Firm get away with things like paying managers who came from BA less than the older associates they are managing... but the bumps are so big no one really complains
