Lost confidence, motivation. Ever had this experience before? What did you do? How did you get up?

Anyone feel like it took them longer to come into their own as associates? I was a terrible junior, I got fired from my job at a small plaintiff firm. They told me that I don’t have the “mental acuity to be a lawyer,” but as a fifth year at a V30 something just clicked. I just got the first positive evaluation of my professional life. I have a December birthday and this is the first time in ages that I can go into it not feeling hopeless.

Anyone thinks groups like FDD will see any layoffs in the next few months?

Laid off and come to find out much of it was because a director under me sold me out. And I really tried my best to help him but after 3 months I felt blindsided. Why does this industry suck?

What would you do? I was recently reached out to by an exec I worked for at another agency. He’s at a new agency and looking for an EA to assist him, the new president and another exec. However the agency itself is not doing well- no new biz wins, big layoffs recently, terrible reviews on Glassdoor. I like my current agency enough, however, very much don’t like the 2 execs I assist. Would you go rather work for good execs at a bad agency? Or stay at a decent agency but awful execs?

How do you not take a layoff due to RIF (involuntary reduction) personally? I was told it is not personal. All full time positions except 1 were let go. Contractors on the team still exist and so does the team. I can’t help but wonder whether performance was a factor and it makes me really sad even after a few months! Any examples of how laying off full time employees over contractors helps with cost cutting? Thanks!

If I was laid off from an agency, can I ever apply for a job there again?

Got let go yesterday. They are offering one months severance. Can I still apply for unemployment (NY State) now or do I wait until the month of severance is over. Should be a lump sum.

I am torn about 2 offers I have (one I've accepted at a v10, & the practice i'm joining is band 1 ranked), and an in-house role where the hours would be much less, and the pay cut somewhat steep. Pros of the firm job are (1) $ since we are trying to buy a house and (2) It will hopefully be easy to go in-house after a few years at the firm. The in house gig is at a fintech firm that sounds amazing (great culture, hours are 9 to 6, and the work sounds ideal for me). I have 2 small kids. Advice?

It's been 4month with the team with no manager. I recently joined the organization and the team I am part of is headed by a lead and one analyst.
So being a new member as Sr.Data Analyst I sometimes have to report to analyst. Considering the fact that he has been part of the team for past 1 year and sometimes he sounds like lead as he is leading some project.
On other hand my manager is continuously asking me take lead in project and try to reduce dependency on that analyst.
