When you’re in a place where HR doesn’t do anything, the best you can do is leave for another job. Leave a complaint during your exit interview so his issues are documented. Had a similar situation, he eventually got fired (took 3 years tho)
Start looking, document his bullshit to protect yourself and have zero qualms about leaving for a job that doesn’t make you have to deal with assholes like this one.
Definitely look elsewhere but don’t tell your potential employers that your “current shop is hostile” — that signals to interviewers that you may be problematic.
But definitely document everything that’s happening now
Start looking for something else. You shouldn’t have to put up with that crap just to hit a resume milestone. In my experience, people are understanding when you say you left a place for “culture” reasons, and you can even consider saying your current shop was a hostile environment if you want to get specific
Wow, yes, please look for another job! It upsets me that someone is saying this crap to you. Work somewhere positive and productive that rewards and builds confidence and decision making. Good luck OP.
Can you tell us what agency would harbor someone like this? Would help the 🐠 .
Get out now. Dm me for leads
HR only cares if the secret gets out. And if they show you any attention it’s only after the fact and with the hope that you won’t sue. Otherwise, they maintain plausible deniability
Don’t worry about hopping around. You have a reason for leaving. Get in a better situation ASAP. Don’t feel guilty about wanting to be happy. Be confident in your decision and stop stressing out about what others could think. It’s a pointless worry.
With honesty. To a similar degree of specificity as what JL1 said. Your mental health and well being are key.
Thanks everyone! He told me that I should hate my job at the end of each week if I’m working hard enough but I disagree. I believe I should be tired and maybe overworked but still feel accomplished/proud.
If you know anyone hiring a Strategist in Chicago, help a girl out!
I’m not sure what to do. Do I stick it out to get at least a year on my resume at one place? I don’t want to keep jumping around to different jr strategy roles.
BTW, HR is well aware and don’t seem to care.
It’s just hard because I want to progress in my career and I’m worried that hoping around will prevent me from advancing
@ Global Account Director - it’s a small independent shop, it would be too obvious. Sorry!!
One more question - how do you feel is the best way for me to answer the “why are you leaving your current role?” With honesty or come up with something else?
What city are you in OP?
@RAPP 1 Chicago!
@Strategy Director 1 I’m not exactly sure how to do that... fairly new to this app. Do you mind messaging me?
Hey OP, I’m also a junior strat in Chicago.... I would recommend waiting to be honest. You’re lucky to have a junior strat role- they barely exist. Definitely look for other places but make SURE you have a written offer before leaving or you’ll be jobless. There are tons of people looking for your job rn and the opportunities are almost nonexistent.
But also OP- if you know how to DM, connect with me- I can see what I can find!
