I kind of feel the same way as OP. It’s strange to just bring it up without feeling like I am shoving it down people’s throats, so to speak. And then I am forever viewed as “the gay”. But I am sure that is just from my own conservative religious upbringing. If it comes up, it comes up. No need to announce it or hide it. It will come up naturallly
You are not alone there buddy!
Everyone knows already. Dont worry so much about it.
Just casually throw it into conversation as if it’s nbd. No need to make it a point or feel like you’re hiding! You do you and good luck!
If I feel comfortable with someone, I usually bring up my bf when they ask about my weekend or plans for the evening/weekend/vacation
I can understand the feelings of not knowing the right time to bring it up and not wanting to “shove it down anyone’s throat”. For me, though, being gay is a big part of who I am and I never feel like I’ve fully gotten to know someone on a real level unless I have been honest about that. I actually make it a point to casually mention it early-on (even during my interviews with PwC) by slipping something in like “my husband and I went there last weekend”, etc. In the case of meeting new team members, I feel it just takes the elephant out of the room so they no longer have to guess and we can move on. In the case of job interviews it gives me an opportunity to know if the person interviewing me is going to have a problem with me bringing my full self to work. If so, better to find out beforehand in my opinion. I would challenge you to try and find a way to skip it into conversation with your team just once, and then from there just see what happens. I bet no one would even bat an eyelash, and you would at least shake that weird hiding in the closet feeling. Maybe use pride month as an example? Like “yeah my friends and I went to so and so for Pride.” Good luck! 🌈
Sometimes I feel I’m ‘hiding’
I’m in the same boat. I hate feeling like I’m hiding or I can’t talk about it. It’s like being in the closet again.
Well... when we say ‘casually’ it’s very subtle.
Example Conversation:
Setting: Talking about the weekend.
1. I’m going out with John and his Bf
2. I’m going to *obvious gay venue*
3. I’m gay. (jk)
Lol EY3 is right and I say the same thing to people all the time.
I don't bring it up until male person says my wife and I did this or female person says my boyfriend and I did that. Then I throw in what I did with my queer partner.
Agree with EY 3. They all know. You can’t really hide it
I came out to my team (a team of 20 people hangin out everyday about 80% are straight sporty guys) during one of our planning sessions. I claimed the tshirt i was gonna use for pride and displayed it in the table the whole day infront of me. Nobody questioned it but their eyes were darting on my shirt. But i assumed they knew. Nothing changed and they were still the same guys/staffs I fool around with everyday!
If you are sincere about coming out there are a lot of subtle ways to do it just be creative!
