Happy Saturday everyone!! Looking to see if anyone can provide a referral or point me in the direction for job opportunities. Potentially in the tech space. I have years of experience in Marketing! Currently working in the tech/realestate industry as a Marketing Advisor. Microsoft Zillow Inc Paypal Amazon Deloitte Google Facebook (Meta) Dell
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

The only one you hurt by telling this is the company. So unless you own it, you should all absolutely be telling each other how much you make. So what if yours is higher? Help out your coworkers by letting them know they’re underpaid!
I know what the salary I was hired at versus them, and what the salary range was at when I was hired.
i wont tell. dont want to have any hard feeling
that’s what I think it’s going to breed resentment
Its not a conversation I openly start, I don't really care what other people are making-- i took the offer for the job and i can only control that salary.
I will share my salary for people in my same range. I wouldn't share my exact salary with a junior or my team, but I would be open to sharing my OTE pay.
I don’t think any company can punish you for that, how could they? Either way, I’ll share if anyone asks because I always negotiate and I know some of my coworkers don’t (including my manager which is why I make more than her)
It drives me crazy when people don’t negotiate, it’s literally free money on the table. I’ve probably made close to $200k more in total earnings from negotiated salary in my 10 professional years!
Sharing your salary information is a personal decision. Companies tried to stop the information from getting out not because they were concerned about employees but they were concerned about themselves.
It is a fragile topic in a society that values their humanity by the salary, grades and other indicators that are not reliable sources of our worth as people.
In the work place you need to protect yourself, that is why I do not work in an office environment, or cauldron Game of Hierarchies, where back stabbing, gaslighting and pitting people against each other are all part of the tacit corporate rules.
You think you will be sharing information to help your fellow workers, right? Yeah, but that could turn into a silent, jealous rage of undermining you to make you seem unworthy of your paygrade.
I am all for community empowerment, but that is not the reality in the workplace.
Now, if you are cornered and you of course do not want to say: I prefer not to disclose that sensitive information, then opt for steering them to say theirs first. And follow with, yes that is what I make - if they are in the same role. If they are lower or higher, then adjust accordingly always giving a number around what they make so they do not feel they have anything over you or want to undermine you for getting paid more.
It is a dog eat dog world you live in.
