My base loc is Bengaluru, but currently I am not mandatorily required to work from office, and have been working from home since I joined Deloitte in July. Should I talk to my manager and go back to my hometown Kolkata and work from there? Staying in PG all day and working from here is not quite feasible for me. Suggest pls. Deloitte India

Personally, I wouldn't.
I was laid off in October and am looking for new software engineering roles myself. I've had a couple of agencies reach out to me, some of them being contract-to-hire roles. In some cases there wasn't a clear indicator there even was a "to hire" part and it was just a temp contract role, in other cases it sounded like I would've just been strung along because in the conversation a comment about employees mentioned that "they had been there for 5 or more years". Yeah, when I confirmed, those folks were still in a contract role that was supposed to be flipped "to hire" at some point, but I guess never did for whatever reason. I guess you could try to find out more on that part.
I personally just want to avoid all of that. It just sounds like it's employers possibly being cheap and not having to pay your benefits since that will go through whatever agency. At least in the cases I was presented that would've been the case.
Besides that, it's already nuts out here, so I would hang onto whatever I had, however crappy that may be, and then try to find what you were currently presented as a fulltime direct hire role.
But that's me. I just want stability and not getting told after X months that they won't hire me outright, that it would be extended by Y months, or in the worst case, it just ends. A non-contract-to-hire role would just give me a little bit more peace of mind, especially in the current climate / market.
Sometimes, that's just how they hire, start as a contractor. Look into it further, so much better to be doing what you like.
Go on the interview and get more information. It can’t hurt to get more information. When I started Fiserv it was contract to hire. I was perm In 6 months.
I was at Fiserv for 3 1/2 years and glad I got out. I hated there. Now I work from home and I am at FIS. It’s great!
I'm stuck same spot too, the issue with contract to hire don't mean at end you become direct employee. I have a contract company lie to me, and rush want me to sign and orientation. I'm just not comfortable to do it, because there is no guarantee.
Why not do it on the side?
