My employer has a 4x days a week in office mandate and I am due at the end of February. Is January too early to ask for some flexibility? And how should I go about it?

I basically told my boss I was going to work from home for the last 3 weeks because I didn't want to risk going in to labor in the office. He totally understood, I didn't have to get a note from my doctor or anything.

like

Agree. My boss seemed relieved because I think he was scared he would have otherwise been responsible for getting me to the hospital in case I went into labor there.

It should be a conversation with your manager but if they ask for documentation or something, i think there is a pregnancy act or cant recall exactly whats its called - you can get a letter from your OB suggesting you to do WFH accommodation as you are nearing your due date. Should be a straight forward thing

like

I took full on disability 4 weeks before my due date and didn’t work at all (which is actually presumed in CA where I am). I don’t think January is too early to ask for work from home at all — you’ll be in the third trimester trenches for sure. Depending on your environment, you could just bring it up with your boss (especially if you think they’ll be reasonable), but you could also start by talking to your doctor if you think a note would help

like

Definitely not too early to get an accommodation. I would tell your employer that is what you need rather than ask.

HR opinion: Do I have any leverage as a hospital nurse case manager in negotiating earned time? I have 15 years within the organization, left for 10 months to be remote during the pandemic while sorting out childcare as immunocompromised family helped. Now HR is restarting my ET as a new employee. I realize I left, but not on bad terms and I am an exemplar and respected employee. I thought I’d have the upper hand with the nursing shortage but I’m getting the “rules are rules” response. Help!?!

Trigger: rare illness post birth

Just sharing that I was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia 3 days after giving birth despite not having risk factors or preeclampsia in my pregnancy. Sharing as I had absolutely no idea about this illness.

Main things to do are check your BP everyday at least the first ten days after you give birth, and go to hospital if it's very high (over 160/110). If you get severe headache or stomach ache then also be vigilant.

Happy to answer any questions!

Hey everyone. I found out we are expecting our first child and I’m really nervous. I got into consulting one year ago and I’m up for promotion this year. With timing of our performance conversations I would have to inform I’m pregnant before outcomes - then shortly after the promotion effective date I would go on a leave for due date. I’ve worked really hard and I’m worried our wonderful news will throw chances with this :(- also if I don’t get promoted pretty sure it’s up or out. Any advice?
