So you're saying that the bonus target is illusory? Ask them how many associates got bonuses the year before. Act based on the answer.
The smaller the firm, the more likely they are to place value on your realized time and not simply billed time.
Doing good work definitely helps justify your billing, for most of my clients anyway
It’s unfortunate but really unfair, the money has to come from somewhere.
Ya, definitely don’t disagree, especially if it’s not clear what is written off. I think you just have to build some write off cushion into your projections since it becomes part of customer service and maintaining customer relationships.

Our firm has this policy for paralegals also. Imagine how unfair that seems
That’s how my firm works. I’ve never heard of someone having 150 hours cut though - that’s a lot! Are you informed when time gets cut? At my firm a partner had cut 50 hours of an associates time on one case without telling him. It only came to light during the annual review/bonus time. That associate was pissed bc he had unknowingly missed his target hour and didn’t receive his bonus. The partner supposedly got a talking to. But we still aren’t informed when our time gets cut.
This will teach you how to bill quality time only. I know it’s tough but clients won’t pay for fluff
