Uh… have you tried looping in the partner? I feel like there’s a ton of things between “give in” and “quit”. What does your leadership say?

You say you “talked to” your SM. Did you tell them you’re not going to travel? Be direct.
Remember: the client manager isn’t your boss. They can’t make you do anything. Set boundaries.
Good news is your client truly loves your physical presence to enlighten their existence
You might just have to deal with it, OP. Upon reading some of you other responses, it sounds like a situation of "person who accepted a consulting job with travel in the job description now has to travel for the first time and it turns out they don't like traveling." It is too late to claim concerns over covid, because you were fine for a few weeks recently. Arguing about productivity for the 5th out of 5 meetings isn't that great either, as productivity is just one reason behind travel.
Get over the hump this last meeting, max out your expenses with nice food/drink/hotel/uberblack, and put more thought into how to avoid travel in the future. Maybe try to take an easy friday after travel, as that was the norm pre-covid.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply!
If it’s in the SOW you are SOL. If the client is asking don’t expect the partner to stand up for you.
You might be exhausted and let the partner know that it will impact output, they will hold that against you.
I started this project this year. Trips per month started ramping up after client realized they needed more help to meet deadlines. Prior to this project, I didn’t need to travel at all.
What's your rationale for saying yes to 4 trips but not 5? It probably isn't covid. "I'm tired" isn't a great reason. Maybe you negotiate a late start one day or day off.
Initially, I agreed that meeting onsite would help progress on deliverables. After the 3rd trip, I realized we’re not that productive and can accomplish everything remotely. Client just doesn’t want to do their work unless we’re physically there and handholding them IMO

Lol unless this is a risk tolerance thing due to the Delta variant, good luck with that. Weekly travel was the norm for a lot of us pre-pandemic, and I assume we’ll eventually get back to it.
Your assessment is that you’re as productive remotely, and the client disagrees. We’re in the client serving business, and weekly travel is normally a reasonable expectation. If this were routine changes to your days on the road mid-trip, you’d also have more of a leg to stand on.
This job would be great if it wasn’t for clients

Did you not travel pre-COVID? Sounds nice that they gave you a week off tbh.
Nah, never traveled pre-COVID. Only commuting to the office downtown but no domestic travel.
Try to negotiate with the manager - maybe only one of you travels out there and you switch every other week. Typically it’s just about “optics” (gag) with the client, so as long as one of you is there, that should be reasonable.
Tell them this will be better for your mental and emotional well being. If they’re a good manager, they should listen to that and be willing to negotiate. If not, talk to the partner.
Also - I missed that you said this is a manager on the CLIENT side. If that’s the case, they don’t give a F about your mental and emotional well being. Still try to negotiate with them, tho
Sounds like you aren't properly managing your time efficiently if it's drained you only after 4 weeks.
I'd be happy to be allowed to travel again - nothing like a Ruth's chris steak on a tuesday evening to lighten the mood
fair point, god-forbid they have to fly through ATL,JFK, or LAX
