Teacher Wellbeing & Self Care

My school closed at the end of last year, and it was merged with another. It’s been an absolute nightmare. Lots of disrespectful students with fights. I’m emotionally spent. How do I get my mojo back?

Go get a massage and look into leadership instruction. See if you can arrange a field trip to attend a leadership development day, usually for ASB or PLUS students, and get at least some of your students out of the rut they're in. It helped me change my attitude greatly which helped my students. Our students need to get their faces out of their phones and each other's business and start looking for opotunuties to flourish and make the world a better place.

Our middle school went through this about a decade ago. It was one of the worst years I ever experienced. It took a little time for the staff and students of the merged schools to feel unified and it honestly took a revamp of all of our administrators. I’m sorry you’re going through this! I do agree that investing in school climate through student leadership programs is important. Good luck and take care of your emotional health!
