My spouse and I are buying our first house soon and we are thinking of renting out a room. Anyone who is currently doing this or has done it before? Would you recommend it or is it too much of a headache?

Will be awkward to share a living room between three of you.

Agree with GAM 1. Tough to rent out a room unless it's a basement with a separate entrance or a person you are familiar with who needs a place to stay but even that's awkward. Best bet is to get a duplex and live in one unit and rent out the other

Also be mindful of the landlord/tenant laws in your state. You can put yourself in a terrible situation if you don’t know the laws and the tenants rights!

Renting a room seems awkward, but I did rent my walk out basement in the first house I bought. We shared the kitchen and living / dining room, but she basically just used the basement and kitchen. Honestly hardly ever saw her in the 1.5 years we lived together

I thought about this too but decided not to. I like my privacy and think it’s best to rent out only if u have separate entry exit (basements, MIL suites)

For all you retail people...are you experiencing a very slow holiday season? I am a retail manager and I feel like this season has been freakishly slow. I thought we would at least match last year's number or be up a little bit but we are trending down. I talked to employees of other stores in the mall and they are saying the same thing. Is anyone else experiencing this in their market?

I was once at a dinner with a second year analyst, consultant, and partner, and the analyst said he planned on retiring by 30 and the partner and consultant laughed. Little did they know, the analyst owned his own home and rented all the rooms out so he payed no rent, never ate out, only grocery shopped, and very very rarely bought anything new. He saved most of his income, and was perfectly content with just his video games. That man was serious about not being stuck working forever.

Shot in the dark since it’s an expensive, niche, and quartz watch… but does anyone have a Breitling Emergency? I wouldn’t say I *need* the emergency beacon aspects of it since a pay for a satellite communicator, but as an outdoorsy guy I’m intrigued. $15K+ seems like a lot for a quartz watch even with the plb functionality but bonuses don’t spend themselves

I have a rental property and my tenant is asking me to change the fridge light burb. I live out of state and don’t have property manager locally. Is it bad if I ask them to change the fridge light burb themselves?

I’m pretty responsive for things they need help with like laundry machine got broken or pantry doors fell off. So I had sent people to fix those maintenance and repair issues.

But light burbs? Srlsy? They are grown up people (fresh out of college girls)

I am selling house and remodeling both master bath and kids bath. Got quote for 29k for both and I buy floors and cabinets.question is I have a very big whirlpool tub and tiles around it discolored. It’s a hassle to lift it up change the tiles and fixtures and put it back. It’s old but works great. Remodeling ppl recommend get rid of it, give space to buyers if they want to buy standalone tub. I thought it adds value to have whirlpool tub. But can’t even change fixture. Should I get rid of it?

Good evening all,
With my partner we are considering making a move to the countryside of Switzerland, with a gorgeous RE project offering incredible views on immaculate mountains and lake. However, it is far away, and will require 1h+ train/car commute vs. 10 min biking right now. We are scared it will bite us back at some point, although COVID helped w/ remote working being a new norm. The project will be done 2024, so I hope to have a more relax job by then. Any similar experience to share?
