Need advice on exiting!

5YOE. 2.5 in consulting. 80k. I found a startup role that I know I would really enjoy doing. Lower pay but is a manager level. Currently mentally ready to exit consulting. Should I consider the pay cut for a more fulfilling, less taxing job? Will that impact my salary negotiations long term?

I can’t speak toward the salary negotiation question, but I was in your exact same position last year. 5 YOE (all consulting), making 93k, and offered a senior analyst role for 80k. I took it and haven’t looked back. If you’re ready for a change, then it’s a great opportunity. And if you end up hating it, you can always come back as long as you leave on good terms.

Personally I would never take a paycut if I’m moving jobs especially if it’s when I’m exiting consulting. But there is more to life than money of course. When you say lower pay, are you strictly referring to salary or are you including things like stock options and bonuses? In my opinion <80k TC sounds a little low for a management role post-consulting but if it was <80k base with some great stock benefits that would be a little more reasonable

I would also check out the exit opportunities and compensatiob bowls for this

I was in this position about 6 months ago and didn’t take the job. I am still thinking about trying to open that door again. Two things to note - unless it’s a very mature start up, WLB could be very unpredictable, regardless of what you are told during interviewing. And what is the pay trajectory like? For the role I was looking at it was a pretty large cut and they were already offering me on the higher end of the pay band for the next role up. I wouldn’t be seeing the salary I currently make for another 3 years or so. But, if you’re a high performer, often times at startups there’s wayyyy more opportunity for growth.

For me, making less then 80k doesn’t found fun but it depends on your situation, cost of living, etc. and if you know you’ll love the job and you’re unhappy where you are I think that it would be worth it. Only you can really answer this Q tho.

the time in the pandemic has really put things into perspective. The only thing anyone doing is working from home and you see if your job is actually worth it.

I’m happy right now but my mom is having a horrible time with her job. I can’t imagine hating my job working 8-6 and then just sitting at home stressed until the next day

There is very little incentive to take a pay cut when you go to an early stage startup if you are in the early part of your career . You most probably won’t last the ten years or so it will take to IPO (and probably won’t have the $$ to buy your shares) and vast majority of startups fail anyway . Late stage startups are totally fine and you can take a bet on RSU with a pay cut .

I have taken pay cuts for the right reasons: you’ll learn something you wouldn’t be able to learn in your current position and you’ll like your job more. Side note I met my wife (still married and in love 25 years later). Go for it... it’s not always about the money.

Hi - I’ve moved to Toronto (from Asia) with 5 YOE in Corporate banking + 2 YOE IB/capital markets (7 YOE in TOTAL) working roles in Front Office and financial analysis.

Believe I’d be a great fit as an Associate in the same space at the major banks (RBC, TD, Scotia, CIBC etc) or in PE/ Asset management.

Could someone help by mentioning the salary ranges I can expect?

Also any tips on networking would be appreciated. Thank you!

Anyone who has/ heard of fbookers who successfully switched roles and gotten a promotion (L3 to L4)?

Context I am planning a switch from analyst to data scientist from a non US location to US. However, L4 is needed for this jump (prob due to visa issues). With the current revamp in PSC cycle, I am not sure if I can successfully get promoted by next year and make the jump. To do so, I heard there needs to be 2 EE (for this half and next half).

I have been searching for job from quite a long time and all I have seeing HR/Panels asking for
1. Number of implementation projects done.
2. Work experience on S4 Hana.

And if I don't have atleast any one of these, I will not be considered.

Is it really that important ?

Being joined as a fresher - Is it really something that I can decide whether to be in support or implementation project ?

Is upgrading of ECC to S4 Hana in my hands ? And the difference is really that vast ?

Am I being paid competitively? I have been the Onboarding Sup for my HR dept for over a year now and I’m being paid the state min for salary, which for CA is 62,400. I have not gotten a merit raise since the last 2 January’s, the state raises the threshold for salary folks. My company says that was my raise. Is this right? I bring a background from the clinical operations of my company, scheduling, field work, and what the average employee faces. I want to look else where but I’m not sure.

Hello Fishes,

I currently hold offers from below:
IBM - 15.5 LPA
CTS - 18.5 LPA
PWC India - 16 LPA
Oracle Financial Services Software(OFSS) - 21 LPA

Planning to join OFSS as I will work in product development team and can work in any shift timings with WFH.

Today I had my 2nd round interview with EY GDS and got rejected.
Do I need to worry about this and feel low?
Could EY GDS would have been better instead of OFSS?

Please provide your valuable inputs.

One of my frustrations with myself (writing it out here so I can work on it) is that I will print out something that I need, such as a traffic collision report. I will read it without actually reading it. This results in spending time without actually retaining info. Does this happen to anyone else? I’ve found that I can actually focus when I truly force myself, but often this happens after I’ve discovered an error or an important piece of information that I should have noticed earlier.
