Say you are bad a PowerPoint
Your cc said they’ll back you up, what’s the problem?
Cannot echo DD2 enough. Recognize how powerful that is. You are supported.
Define strategically please
OP - simply state that you talked with your cc and you both agree that this role won’t be a good fit for you.
I’m currently a generalist analyst who wants to get into the analytics practice.I have the hard skills for it (ie: python, Hadoop, spark) and have built my network so my career counsellor is in analytics and I’m doing business development for managers in the area. Only problem is, all the roles are currently unsold and there doesn’t look like a ton is coming down the pipeline. I roll off on Monday and was offered an unrelated project in process redesign, starting Tuesday. Career Counsellor said he will defend my decision to turn down the role. What should I say, as to not burn bridges?
I know a Technical analyst in ACN who got persuaded to take on a BA role for 4 weeks and she’s been there now for over a year
Thanks for weighing in, everyone! Turned down the role, said I’m interviewing for a few presently that I feel are a better fit for my skill set (which is true) 🤗 hopefully that’s the end of it
Jokes aside, do you have anything else lined up? How long is the new role? How much bench time are you comfortable with?
That’s the problem, I don’t have another role lined up. Talking to a few projects right now but every analytics role is unsold. The process redesign is a 10 week gig but if we do well it could turn into a longer project... career counsellor said he would prefer I do bench time and wait for the right role instead of this one but I’m honestly split
@D2 what should I say to turn down the role? I don’t want to burn any bridges and seem entitled, especially since I’m an analyst.
Honestly, have a candid conversation about your goals and your cc's guidance with your potential manager. Tell them you are happy to take on the project in the short term so you can learn, network and grow but you wouldn't stay on long term. I'm sure they'll respect you for it.
Don't be on bench, if nothing ever gets sold, you are useless.
When I joined as an analyst I turned down 3 roles in a row. Chilled on the bench for five weeks and found a good role. TFS was up my ass but I told her to pound sand.
