Nob hill, pacheights, marina, north beach. The rent down the peninsula wont be significantly cheaper.
Nob hill would make a great name for an area in London

Tell us a bit more about what you like in a neighborhood (walkable, close to the city, dive bars versus nice bars, hipster versus preppy, etc)
Where’s your work office and will you have a car? I don’t recommend living outside the city if you don’t have a car. I paid $2900 for a one bed that’s 700 sq ft in lower Nob hill which isn’t the best area but that was pre covid. I’ve since moved because sf is the fuckkng worst city especially if you compare it to nyc. Sorry don’t mean to yuck on your yum haha.
This is going to sound more dramatic than I mean for it - but I have not met a single person who has lived in both NYC and SF and prefers SF. Maybe n=10-15 so not a super robust sample by any means. The food is not as good as NYC. There’s virtually no reliable public transportation. The homeless population is out of control. And the city govt doesn’t do anything to help mental illness in the homeless community. The homeless in SF will literally scream at innocent bystanders and occasionally chase them - I had never seen that in my 4 years in NYC. It’s also not a crime to steal anything under $950, so I’ve seen Trader Joe’s / Walgreens employees look helpless and sad as a homeless person runs in and steals merchandise. Oh, and human shit everywhere. EVERYWHERE. The cost of living is the same as nyc. BUTTTTTTTT the weather is awesome. Proximity to Napa and Tahoe just cannot be beat. There’s truly great parts of SF that nyc can’t offer so I don’t mean to be a huge Debbie downer!
