Bain & Company Bain & Company Do you have any insights into what they are expecting in the second (last) round? I saw that there are two cases and a presentation. Are they more interested in professionalism than the "analytical" skills assessed in the first round? Do you have any more insights into the presentation?
Many thanks in advance

Never say your current salary. Always say the range for the roles you are interviewing for. I wouldn’t lie about how long I’ve been in a role. You won’t have to if you just say you’re currently interviewing for roles in the range of x-y.

I don’t know why people push back on the current comp question. A good recruiter will already know your comp, there is little point in lying. That being said, most places just benchmark your comp flat to current so you always inflate if you want more.

I push back because historically it has led a couple of places to either withdraw or drastically lower an offer. If they were prepared to take me on at a certain salary before, why on earth should I take less just because they think I shouldn't have too big an increase from my previous salary?!
You shouldn’t lie, you should just make your goal posts clear e.g. “I’m at 110k, but would only be looking to move for >130k”.
The objective facts (title, time in role) are all things a background check should provide, so no point messing around with it. Just exaggerate your responsibilities, as long as you can tell the story well no one can validate that.
Don’t even say what you currently earn, just say you wouldn’t move for less than £X.
Agree with the comments here, but interested to see how other people safely push back when the question gets asked again and again after already answering with what the above comments suggest?

I think they could only do that because you were early in your career as you mentioned. If they did now, double down by saying your current role and the roles you are exploring are not directly equivalent and therefore are focused on compensation for roles that reflect your current interests, align with your experience and future career goals. Given the interviews and applications you have in the pipeline already, the ranges you are discussing are x to x.
