New United 1K here - is it just me or are GPUs extremely hard to use for international leisure travel? Can’t use on award tickets or certain fare classes 😕

Pretty much. It’s overrated. Even at GS, it’s overrated since the only addition is award tickets — still can’t use on cheap fares

like

Make GS

like

Hard to use. Enable expert mode on the United site. It will help you identify what flights have instant upgrades for GPUs

smart

GS here. Use mine easily every year, and I get extras as I typically hit 250k+

like

GS can upgrade award flights. Buying economy saver international and using a GPU to get first is a nice perk, not gonna lie.

like

I will say even at 1k feels like United doesn’t care about you. But when I was Delta diamond and then 360, I felt like they didn’t care about me either. Delta has a better baseline service level (although not as good as alaska), but ultimately you’re still just a revenue source for them even at diamond and 360. GS feels like they actually care about you a bit

like

Yeah they almost always expire even when I try to use for people I know

For personal travel, aren’t you always on award flights? For work Travel I assume the fare class always qualifies

Just use expert mode to buy at W fare class and look for flights that have immediate R space. It’s not that bad, just costs a bit more than the cheapest rate, but heck of a lot cheaper than paying business

Also GS get more inventory they can clear out of

So seems like the takeaway is that they aren’t that helpful until you hit Global Services

@D1 no way overrated at GS. Tons of hidden extra perks. Guess you aren’t GS ;)

PL1 I’m GS. What perks are you referring to? It’s certainly been nice being GS but underwhelming tbh.

Flight attendants will do anything, basically always get upgraded, GS only award saver ticket stock, dedicated line, early boarding, tight connection transfer, and even holding planes (this was clutch on an international flight a couple years back)

GS is the best status. I’ve been Delta 360, alaska 75k (I know no big deal), SW companion pass, and GS is clearly the best.

I love GS. Two weeks ago flew to Europe and back in Business for 60k miles, $75 and 2 GPUs.

Best everyday bank account and credit card in Australia for an expat couple?

I‘m moving to Australia with my partner and we don’t have a bank account and credit cards yet. We basically need the bank account only for everyday finance stuff (local payments, debit card, etc) and we‘re looking for some credit cards with good international fees and ideally a reward program to collect some points for traveling.
