Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones?

It means they can’t extend and offer until it is appproved.
The difference is the partner wants to hire but but may not have approval to add headcount to team. It is not an offer until it comes in writing.
It’s a verbal offer that is not official. So think of it as you likely got the job but not 100% final until partner approves
Exactly as the recruiter stated. I was told by recruiter they will make an offer but wont be final til approved. took a week to go through approval in their system, but they verbally told me the offer so i knew what it was.
I went thru a similar thing and got a verbal offer first, then written offer. Just accepted the offer. It’s running by the partner/recruiting committee first then giving the verbal offer. Big4 is a big org with rigid hiring procedures, expect delays but it gets the job done.
Yeah a week seems very manageable but if we're talking about 2-3 weeks that seems to be a lot scarier for someone who desperately needs a job. Hope OP gets an offer sooner than 3 weeks
Did they indicate a start date in your verbal offer? You may want to ask if they anticipate the start date slipping due to their internal process.
Nothing is firm until you have a written job offer that includes all the details of the new job. If they give you a verbal offer it still is a positive thing but wait until the written one to move on with any changes needed like giving a 2 weeks notice at current job. If you are new to the workforce, a written offer can also be rescinded if you live in a at will employment state. I live in Florida and although it is uncommon I've seen written offers being rescinded after a week due to company being acquired and stuff like that. But most of the time a written job offer is something firm. (I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice but my experience).
